Release time: 2020-12-16   Author: The Roundtable of Yangtze Industrial Economic Think Tank

An economic planning meeting for 2021, chaired by President Xi Jinping on Friday, called for strengthened antitrust efforts and the prevention of disorderly expansion of capital. This time, the Roundtable of Yangtze Industrial Economic Think Tank invited scholars from all walks of life to express their views on the background, significance and implementation of this proposal. At the meeting, experts discussed the current situation of China's Internet platform monopolizing the market, seizing market share with unfair competition and crowding out competitors by virtue of the advantages of capital, technology, market, talents and license plates, resulting in the survival difficulties of small and medium-sized enterprises and individual practitioners. It is suggested that the supervision system should be improved to regulate the behavior of monopoly power hindering the innovation of science and technology in the real economy. Liu Zhibiao, President of the Yangtze Industrial Economic Institute (IDEI) of Nanjing University, pointed out that the antitrust efforts and the prevention of disorderly expansion of capital that we need now should not be the suppression of Internet innovation and innovation mode. What we really need to oppose is not their market position, but their market behavior of attacking competitors by using their position; it is not the fact of monopoly itself, but the bad behavior of using monopoly position to exclude small and medium-sized enterprises. This will lead to serious injustice and huge social contradictions.
